For me, Internal Time: Chronotypes, Social Jet Lag and Why You're So Tired, sits squarely in the latter category.

While in normal chronotypes the first half of the night is dedicated to long-wave sleep and the second half and early morning hours fill your REM quota, Walker says with later chronotypes, your brain may get the same effect later in the morning as long as you get eight hours.

Chronotypes were first studied in the s by Olov Ostberg, and since then, many sleep researchers have taken their stab at understanding and educating others on chronotypes.

There are many different tests you can take to determine your chronotype, and if you were to visit a sleep medicine doctor you’d likely be given the morningness.
